Hero Talk

Hero Talk

A Poem by Rachel DeHart

I've been thinking a lot.
And trying to wrap my mind around
this whole stupid mess.
You. All. Were. The. First. People. I've. Trusted. In. Years.
and now..
I am sitting here, trying so hard
to figure out how you all fooled me.
How I ever thought
that I could let down my defenses.

Here is the thing.
I actually put some stock
in you all pulling through this with me.
Thought [for some reason]
that I had some friends behind me.

I was wrong.
And as much as I'd like to
fall back into the pattern of things
as soon as "my space opens up again".

I'd rather be miserable than lied to.

I think the title is a great finishing touch (or starting touch) to this poem. It really turns it into something that resonates. The poem, itself, is great too. I especially ike your finish.

I really liked this piece! It was real and raw! I'm sorry that whatever happened had to happen to bring this out, but thank you for sharing! Well done!
