Phantom Impossibilities

Phantom Impossibilities

A Poem by Rachel DeHart

I dreamt last night of the comfort I feel when you’re around,

saw myself finding out everything about you,

kissing lightly the curve of your neck, holding your hand

through all the stress you live through.

being the girl you’ve said you can’t seem to find.

I feel like we are both feeling the same thing,

but throwing up walls fast enough to kill whatever

could have a chance to live within us.

but when i woke up this morning, I could still

feel the phantom of you beside me.

fighting with the light, I tried my hardest

to crawl back into your arms to find solace.

because with the coming of dawn, I see

all the impossibilities of us ever being

                           anything.

i love the way that you describe this situation perfectly...something that seems so simple, someone feeling for somebody else who doesn't seem to be wanting the same things, and how it can be so much more than that. lovely.
