barbarian

barbarian

A Poem by Rachel DeHart

I dreamt about barbarians

sweeping me away off my feet

and of epic fights through

the cob webbed places where

history mingled with the

future.

and my past didn’t matter

as much as I swore it did.

I dreamt of being loved

the way I always thought

love was supposed to work

with flowers and silly

post-it note love reminders.

the scene went dark,

and this is where I wanted to

wake up, but didn’t.

because the reminders

of why this is all a dream

flood in. I will never

have what I’ve always wanted.

A steady hand to cling

to through panic attacks

and hold onto with out

the urge to run away because

I am scared.

Waking up, I was left with a warm spot

in the center of what should be my heart.

                                going cold.

I couldn’t hold on to the

idea of being loved for

long enough.

reality does

in fact

always come back.

We all dream of those fairy-tale love stories- even while in love with someone. But when you say, "I'll never have what I always wanted; a steady hand to cling to," - don't give up hope. Like Poeticpiers said, we all suffer heartbreaks. And it may seem hopeless sometimes. But sometimes things turn out better than we thought - and hope has something big to do with that. :-)

this was really good, easy for me to relate to. I think smetimes even if somone did love me, i wouldnt believe it, because of past experiences, or idealistic beliefs,..its messed.

Good work though, i liked this one a lot.
