Wylie’s Crazy ZooA Poem by Grant NorwoodOne of a series of children's poems (potentially picture books) about a boy called Wylie and his imaginationThis morning when I woke up, there was Wylie by my bed Giggling hysterically, and this is what he said
I have a small confession which I need to tell to you Last night after lights went out I snuck off to the zoo
I really had to see what happens when the people go And while the zoo is empty they put on quite a show
There was a striped Hyena gently strumming a guitar While Lemurs taught the Chimpanzees just how to drive a car
There was a small white Rabbit pulling magicians from a hat And Flamingos on one leg were doing yoga on a mat
Polar Bears with knee pads whizzed past on roller blades While Meerkats entertained me with a quick round of charades
Some Highland Cows were dancing to the sounds of a bag-pipe While a Leopard changed his spots for brand new shiny stripes
The Pandas were redecorating just so that they could sell An amazing bamboo castle to a family of Gazelles
A Pig was wearing lipstick and earrings and some pearls A Vulture did a makeup check then went out with the girls
Koalas were playing basketball & you should see them dunk Over top of all the Elephants dribbling badly with their trunks
Beavers built a mansion to party with their friends And sent out invitations to all who could attend
The Otters came straight over with a basket full of food But the Sea Lions just ignored them - I thought this was quite rude
And then a little worried I had spent most of the night I made my way back to my bed before it got too light
Now that I have risen with the sunshine in my eyes What happened at the zoo last night did come as a surprise
Well gosh I said to Wylie, you must be very tired Braving scary zoos alone is sure to be admired
But one last thing to ask of you, is this story true Oh yes said Wylie with a smile, that’s a crazy crazy zoo © 2014 Grant NorwoodAuthor's Note
