The Safe Haven

The Safe Haven

A Poem by gram linski

The Safe Haven;
-
the mirror is full of noise
                                 and shadow
we are all the ghost of some other experience
made from the stardust and  space dust
of the dead, on the outside, looking
outwards,
watching comets and falling stars and dying,
exploding rebirthing universes in a litany
of reverberated big
bang hiss and growl, heard inside, at the
apex of humanoid ears / like a
                                             cymbal /
                                                           smashed
-
-like a tear of ice
freezing rivulets of sweat
onto stalactites of dead thought
shivering, trembling
in the ambient chaos of cave - like
dreams,
-
I float, unseen, unheard, unfelt,
      for the most,
but my heart beats a ferocious beat , the hard riff
the pound pound pounding pounding
                            the internal walls of mind
         to nothing but the memory
    of rust,--
-
this sliver of mine, caught
between dimensions,
neither living, nor dead,
adrift on the ocean
sweet scarlet motion of ocean
of a sea horse of foam
     in situ,     frozen crystals
in the moon
     this ghost place of mine
     Safe haven,
                        hidden in the shadows
where no-one will find
                                        ( of mind, )
                                         ( of mine, ) x

Hey, Gram. I love the safe haven you've created among the chaos of life. The chaos of creation seems like the place where the greatest comfort can be found within the context of the poem. Perhaps in the possibility. If something is always beginning, then the endings are not so final. Or that is what your words make me think. I really liked the (x) at the end. It is this kind of comforting dialogue with the self where the things on the outside that try to worm in and take away the us of us lose their power because the power of the poet to live within the confines of reality and imagination simultaneously usurps the ability of reality to do permanent damage. I feel like your poem is saying we are never alone when we have a private place of contemplation within us. Reminds me of the planet where The Little Prince stands alone looking down at the larger world. From above everything looks smaller and more muted and less significant. I suppose that can be a blessing or a curse depending on what we need. But the distance and ability to see the bigger picture. Like where you begin with the cosmic players. The things that birthed us but also remained as they were as we went through all these different evolutions. So, there is constancy among the upheaval and chaos. A safe haven for those who are seeking it and are open to the mixing of reality and spirit that can sustain us. Always great to read your poems. There is always so much within the universe of each to discover.
