I think Michelangelo thought of his figures as alive, at least in some sense. And, like us poets, I think a lot of artists see the creative work as some kind of living extension of themselves. So, like the idea of two worlds meeting here and transferring that life to one another.
The statue is touched and the atoms begin to bounce and that bounce seems almost like an ice melt where what was always underneath becomes free to dance about in the world. The power of mind is inherent, but like the statue, we don’t always understand our own power until
it is revealed to us by some outside force. Here, the stranger’s fingers become the impetus and bring the mind to life.
It’s a beautiful concept. Light chasing away that dark moat water and replacing it with a more living water. The water of soul—which can quench eternally.
Love the play between light and dark. Stasis and movement. Solitude and a sort of togetherness. These contrasts make the transformation that much more satisfying.
And the thought breathes life into a silent world. Love this poem, Gram.

I hardly pay attention to sculpting, even tho I enjoy art often. Your poem opens my eyes to the multi-dimensional aspect of sculpting, as compared to some "flat" medium. You make us feel every granule & fiber of a multi-dimensional work. I'm reminded . . . it's been said, there's something in there & the carver or sculptor releases it . . . that's the feeling of process that you depict here. I was feeling it emerging. Very enjoyable experience (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I have a statue of the Thinker on my dresser....always love to wonder what he was thinking. Today it seems not enough folks are thinking for themselves. If only the Rodin sculpture could come to life and tell us all what we need to hear....what we need to do. A rebirth of the world would be just what the doctor ordered. Thought provoking and lovely poetry. Lydi*

This poem is such a great statement on how art evokes our emotions and touches different parts of our souls and minds. One can feel the delight in your words as the intended shape and silhoutte emerges slowly bringing the Thinker to life, a moment of joy, dispelling the darkness within. A spiritual moment. Kudos on another great poem sir!

Kudos on another great review, thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy, much appreciated
A very nice tribute to the artist. I like The Kiss and Torso of Adele by him as well. I've always admired sculptors and their works. My wife a very small statue I gave her carved by some unknown artist from pink marble of two small birds in a nest...I think they are supposed to be bluebirds. I bought it for her at a craft show and she treasures it.

Aha! Rodin! Someone was inspired! I appreciate this poem because Rodin is very close to being my favourite sculptor. Your clever use of "The Thinker" here just magnifies the poem, in itself a wonderful poetic describing of all the elements coming together to produce a work of art. I enjoyed your descriptions here and the poem as a whole! Nice work, dear gram! :))

we need that to happen now....but there has to be some thought there with the ability to actually think.
sad times...understanding has to come along with the wisdom...and vice-versa.

Caged in an animal's mind;
No wish to be more or else
Than I am; a smile and a grief
Of breath that thinks with its blood,
Yet straining despite; unsure
