'and the smashed porcelain birdcage

can only be broken once"
I saw that bird escape its cage to find freedom
I kept thinking of thought flight, rising above our physical and mental suffering. That takes strength and is hard to do., but it can be done.

In a poem about pain, you manage to evoke a weightlessness that is quite uplifting. Perhaps it is in the understanding that there are limits and barriers to pain, and that each experience has a certain threshold where we can find solace.
The birdcage image is quite a conundrum in my head. It has this dual nature like the pain itself. There’s a sense of fragility with the cage as porcelain and shatter-able, but when it shatters, the bird-soul rises. I love that. It’s like a notion that pain itself gives us wings.
Something to carry forward when the ghosts of things try to creak into knotty bone. Though we may be toughened by scar and somewhat impeded by the toll pain takes on the body and spirit, there is always the spirit which cannot be caged forever.
It’s lovely thought, and with the limit of ‘can only be broken once’ there is also an additional hope. The format you’ve used is like flight itself. And the soul rises up. Light as wings. I really like this.

We gain strength through inspiration, and much of the inspiration comes from nature. Our minds are capable of much more than our bodies (think) they can endure. We can reconstruct the broken pieces, if only in our mind.. and the format you've used here shows that.

we have very strong resilience and often we have no idea we can fly even when we are broken.
and maybe we need some scar tissue on our hearts just to be a bit more able to survive...
fly away, fly away.
great piece...

Caged In An Animal's Mind
Caged in an animal's mind;
No wish to be more or else
Than I am; a smile and a grief
Of breath that thinks with its blood,
Yet straining despite; unsure
In my stir .. more..
