You soon find out who your true friends are, when misfortune strikes. The ones that are there for you throughout, are the ones worth keeping. The ones that have seen the worse side of you and still stick around are like gold. Keep yourself safe in this really stormy weather. I watched the rugby yesterday in your neck of the woods. Didn't look good, and I am talking about the weather conditions here gram.

thanks for the review, Laurel glad you enjoyed
I'm afraid if anyone truly knew all of me they would indeed run my friend... in fact if I truly knew all of me I would run too! Thank heavens for memory disorders LOL:) this piece is grace in brevity Gram

haha, thanks man, aye I think if we all stared at the tear stained clown in the mirror, long enough .. read more
I watched a series around this time last year called Umbrella Academy. It’s an excellent, sad portrait of misfits. Anyway, there’s this time traveling hitman who meets a woman who owns a donut shop and they fall in love. She doesn’t know about his work, but when she eventually witnesses the depths of it firsthand, he timidly asks if she’s still interested. (He’s told her he’s planning to run away from his work to be with her.) So, her response is: ‘Everyone has a past.’

Your poem made me think of that again. I mean the idea of someone accepting another person, even with understanding the darker shades of who they are, or whatever it is that we feel there is about ourselves that might cause someone to pause—or run.

Doesn’t necessarily have to be a romantic love, though. Being seen in our entirety (or mostly so) and still accepted is a gift in any form.

The first three lines speak to me of the different ways we can see and be seen. We can go through life seeing some people everyday and never actually be seen by them. Whether it’s by choice or just the way things are. So, when we are seen, and choose to share not only the beautiful but the painful & less favorable...well, your poem expresses it better than I can right now.

I like the way the title works. I mean, I read this a few times adding the ‘of me’ to the end of lines and I liked the way that bounced in my head. But, also, leaving it just as that statement title expands the whole idea of the poem. It’s a lovely, pure poem with a profound heart. A great combination in my book.

I think this is something we would all like to say we understand and have experienced.

Sorry for mentioning this first, but I see a glimpse of Eilis's influence regarding the enjambment of the last two lines . . . very well done to create two vastly different meanings, depending on how you read it. This is a beautiful love poem. Thank you for making my Valentine's Day with at least one spot-on bit of romance that means something deep & multi-layered! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
