Them

Them

A Poem by gram linski

They came for the gays and the gypsies
and the poets wrote it down in limerick and abstract
rhyming non sense idyllic frown
They came for the old and the unfirm
Euthanasia Angels in the night
and the poets were apopolectic
in their verse, the language took
a dirty turn, the turn of phrase, the ...
and then the Jews were next, were gone
and the wordsmiths shouted loud, read our poetry you,
in silence, ya Nazi f***s,
and then they came for you
ya bohemian poet f**k, artist
malcontent of society,
who will read the words
when the words are dead

and the ones that did nothing
were guiltiest of all,

and there was  no-one left
to write it down,

Indeed a timely piece gram as we watch Syria enter a decade and Yemen and Sudan etc. Poets can write it into history but in reality no one is there to protect and preserve innocence. And even if the written word has power it has little impact! A nicely written and sensitive piece sir!

No cheeky banter just a simple thanks,
someone once said . . ."For evil to exist [to win], all it takes is good men to do [or say] nothing."
Always a timely reminder is this poem Gram. Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed, T. poem was based on that quote, thanks
the Beats wrote to stir those non-poets to movement...to reconcile the wrongs to make them right.
I love how this progresses through all of the different hates and prejudices and the discounted elderly...the cry of the poets for caring and love...but nothing done? no one listens? and eventually there will be no one left to write it down...or the poets will just become so frustrated with the deaf ears, they will give up.
powerful powerful write...in the same breath as Ginsberg's "Howl"----
