The apostle Paul didn’t hold much stock in women, ‘tis true. Of course we know that this was the general consensus for much of history. Women have their place, but that place is not in positions of power or influence or leadership inspiration. Now, if we’re trying to train young ladies how to be good young ladies, well, we always need examples of obedience and meekness. But Mary M didn’t fit that bill.
She was a woman who had a questionable background, according to some accounts. A woman who mixed with men and had opinions and gumption. So, naturally her story wasn’t favored. Too bad some things are simply lost to the past. But, those who knew her obviously felt she held an important role, and snuck her into the story after all.
What’s great about this is that thing you do where you plant a seed of an idea and let the reader run with it. There are many paths this can lead us down. But the shaping influence of those constructs of power and hierarchy come through strongly for me at the moment. The ways truth might be undermined to maintain a certain sense that those in power prefer observed.
Strong work by you. I love that you are a feminist. I think you may be, anyway. Somewhere in the neighborhood at least. Good stuff, Gram.

But I take it as a commentary on the bullshit the King James Bible tends to peddle.
Most devoutly religious people don't realize that the bible they read today was something constructed on the command of a Roman emperor from a hand picked committee that happened to share in his ideology around about 325ish years AD. i.e the council of nicea. Extreme bias is a word that is criminally underused in todays modern religion.
True religion cannot be written. It is an essence that has survived from what survives. (i'm an agnostic by the way, and a big fan of evolution... especially intellectual evolution)
There's a lovely documentary called "cave of forgotten dreams" you should take a look at. It's far, far more spiritual than any 'bible' from any 'religion'.
real life is honest and raw....sometimes those in the church cannot see that...they are of many words, but where are the actions to back them up.

Caged In An Animal's Mind
Caged in an animal's mind;
No wish to be more or else
Than I am; a smile and a grief
Of breath that thinks with its blood,
Yet straining despite; unsure
In my stir .. more..
