Honesty = bravery in my book. It’s not easy to expose the inner universe to the light of day, but, if it’s not let out to roam, the space it takes up becomes crowded and threatens to splatter what’s on the outside.
Being human is an SOB sometimes. But, I guess we kind of make existence pretty s****y for a lot of other living things, haha. Perhaps we can take solace in the power we have to escape the seemingly inevitable.
I’m just talking. I could have easily written this poem and have written versions of it many times. You‘ve put one out there. And whether it’s personal or just an expounding of an understanding it doesn’t really matter. You’ve voiced something here that a lot of us feel. Your last two lines are especially poignant.
But, it takes strength to say what you mean and not disguise it. To me, this poem is like another battle charge to the writer to embrace the power you have through words and slash through those feelings with them until those feelings disperse and lose their power.
The courage to think, for me though, is the most important thing. It opens out to so many other things.

I agree dear poet.
"The courage to be me
Is something I'm still working on."
Hard to release memories to paper. We must relive them to write. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thanks for the review, glad you liked it, always hard to write about internal demons,

I agree. I have many demons and you are welcome my friend.
even though Melanie sang " i am not a poet, living is the poem"
i think "bleeding and dying " is just as much the poem.
powerful stuff here...with our "fucked, broken tongues" we still speak the best we can...trying to represent all those who maybe can't ....

But doing it, expressing yourself via paper and pen, or online via a pc screen. You are being cathartic and helping you heal. As you are facing your demons that haunt you and take your spirit and soul. Nothing in life is easy. But in the long run you are doing something for you. That will pay you back tenfold. As it was worth the effort, pain and emotional turmoil it made you face. To come to the other side of that dark room. And walk through that door into the light. Proud of you Gram.

Very nice poem and I can relate it. It's often hard to write about my childhood since it was nothing but like a horror story. But I like opening up my heart on here.

Thanks JungLee, poetry is the only escape, the only way to get the s**t outside your head
Wow this is deep and filled me with dread. You make some starkly frightening points in this seemingly self reflective piece that flows like flesh over shards of glass.

Like your reviews, John, but you f*****g scare me, keep the f**k away from my poems and me, lol
Its the perfect tool for working on being me. This is so full of truths , and so many identifiable to the ones who haunt this place. Thank goodness for the writers, if it wasn't for them, those that don't write would not be able find the solace that the written word can bring. Awesome piece!

To spill your guts over the page takes courage, but I also believe it to be cathartic. Your own type of therapy. I hope it makes life a bit easier for you. At times being alive can make you think you are in hell. You are making progress, be assured of that. You know where you want to be, it may take time, but you can do it. A good read on a difficult subject gram.

Caged In An Animal's Mind
Caged in an animal's mind;
No wish to be more or else
Than I am; a smile and a grief
Of breath that thinks with its blood,
Yet straining despite; unsure
In my stir .. more..
