Gone fishin'

Gone fishin'

A Poem by gram linski

River laps me asleep
In stillness and bird song,
A cork floats to sea,
Distant tarmac
Rumbles a century away,
And swans read
My damp poems in mud
Without comment, and a
Critics feather like touch,
Unconcerned,
Swimming to Eire
with sunlight in their eyes

Lovely snapshot of a moment. Feels timeless like this bit of the landscape is frozen outside the consumerist landscape that dominates so much of the horizon. That 'distant tarmac...a century away'...I like that idea especially.

I have (a probably unhealthy) longing for places like this. Where time is something to luxuriate in and something that we are a part of--not trying to master. Your description of the swans is inspired.

I really love this...like I think I'm developing a poem crush. Great poetry, Gram.

I like that cork floating to sea. You have to enjoy the river in the company of a bottle of wine don't you? That is apart from the swans and the birds. Beautiful setting. Nature at its best. Great place to write poetry and where quite a few of mine have been written.
