Red Sneakers

Red Sneakers

A Poem by Gracynn

Why did you take my red sneakers?
I was proud of the Nike swoop feature.
Toe popped out of the hole showing my sock,
Now it hurts to step on pebbles and rocks.

Why did you take my pre-ripped jeans?
Others viewing my body is not keen.
And humiliation overwhelms me,
Over things people can never unsee.

Why did you take my striped t-shirt?
Men stare, talking only to flirt.
My chest barely covered with my lace bra,
My pale flesh showing every flaw.

Why did you take that sheer, lace bra?
My skin, my body feels so raw.
You chose when I would become a woman,
A w***e I'd grow up as nothing more than.

Why did you take my white panites?
Now every single man sees,
What is always available.
They enter what was unattainable.

This has such a sadness about it. It seems to suggest someone who has little control or choice as they are forced to accept their fate and that fate pushes them down a road of sexual promiscuity. There is an air of sensuality and vulnerability and yet anger to this.
