Get your fill of originality at Delray Fashion Week 2015A Story by graciesonIt holds all the excitement and glamour of New York Fashion Week but it has so much more to offer on a more personalized level.Delray Fashion Week 2015 takes place in the magical community surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean known as Delray Beach, Florida. It isn't unusual to enjoy the warm ocean breeze 365 days a year. Delray Beach Fashion Week has continued to put this coastal city on the map. Nestled between Boca Raton to the south and Palm Beach to the north, Delray Beach was voted 'Most Fun Small Town in America' by Rand McNally and USA TODAY. With plenty of activities centering on the style and sophistication of fashion, Delray Beach Fashion Week draws a curious and diverse crowd with its fashion shows, styling sessions, beauty makeovers, art expositions and trunk shows which extend along Atlantic Avenue and the boutiques directly off the avenue. The event is currently underway and runs from January 17, 2015 through January 24, 2015, when the grand finale of fashion winds down an exhilarating week of unforgettable fashion. What makes this fashion week even more special to those that live and work in Delray Beach is the focus, not only on national and international designers, but on the local retailers, designers, salons and multi-talented artists with a penchant for perfection. As the world continues to strive for environmental sustainability, a very extraordinary fashion event, devoted to what can only be described as 'garbage gone glam', was held on Sunday, January 18, 2015. Presented by the generous sponsorship of NAKeD Hair Salon & More, 4th Avenue Photography & Video and the Delray Beach Center for the Arts, the "Recycled Runway, Vintage Trunk Show & Tea Dance" took a stylish start at the most appropriate Cornell Museum of Art in Old School Square. This museum, with its own personality, is one of the oldest historical landmarks in Delray Beach, Florida. At one time, this was the only elementary school in the area (1913). Flash ahead to 1990 and the building was restored and turned into a museum which houses intriguing exhibitions and is attached to the Crest Theater. Totally out of character, the school gymnasium has now become a comedy club. All eyes began to turn their attention to the makeshift runway right in front of the museum at 4:00 p.m. The outdoors was just as breathtaking as the fashions on this glorious afternoon. This recycled runway show had the upper edge on collections seen at some of the shows of some of the most popular designers, such as Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney. Very creative designers transformed recycled garbage such as raffle tickets, magazines, Wal-Mart bags, leather, bottle caps, canvas and so much more, into enticing fashions in the form of gowns, skirts, tops, trousers and dresses. Vivacious models walked the catwalk with a perky attitude and a smile for the crowd. Sponsors who contributed so much time and effort to make sure the event was a huge success had so many positive things to say about the message of the show, the importance of the union of fashion and the environment. © 2015 gracieson |
