Chapter One: Question Reasoning

Chapter One: Question Reasoning

A Chapter by Grace Brown

No one really knows what pain is like until you can sympathize with the emotions brought about after spending your thanksgiving break watching a tv series- non stop. That moment when you get to the last episode and think everything is going to work out, or even if it doesn’t, then something has to go right to balance that out. What happens when we find out we are wrong? That we just spent over 72 hours, nonstop, binge watching our “favorite” tv show. My guess- we find a new show and move on.

The crazy truth in all of this is that that is exactly a reflection of life. We can sit in our state of mind for as long as we wish, hoping that after one bad thing, then there must be something good to set the balance of nature. In truth, I don’t believe anyone stopped to ask, what if there is no balance? The reasoning behind this unasked, completely forgotten question, the reason that no one has actually contradicted the balance of nature is because no one wants to. If someone were to go stepping on your flower garden, would you push them away and tell them to leave or would you stand by idly watching your so-called perfection be ruined?

The balance of nature is merely a myth of those who wanted to believe in something bigger. Please, don’t let me ruin your hope or your willingness to believe in more, but please, do let me allow you to wonder and to explore the possibility of less.

No one wants to believe in less because where would that leave us? If we had less time, less money, less hope, less happiness, how many people would actually want to keep on believing? Its like believing in a greater being that shows no mercy, but asks for respect.

I do believe in God. I believe in my own God and I never have and never will judge someone based on their beliefs because as we have learned from our past mistakes- or at least I hope we have learned from them- beliefs are nothing more than personal opinions.

So now you’re probably wondering how we got from a Netflix, binge-watching, tv-aholic to God.

This is not meant to confuse someone or stray them from believing what they need to in order to hold themselves together, it is simply meant to question why we need to believe. Questions are the basis of every theory that has ever been proved right or wrong. They are the basis of every decision made and every treaty fortified or vetoed. And in the end, questioning what holds us together, what pushes us to the limit in order to fulfill what we believe we personally need to fulfill, will provide us with the answers in the end. What do you believe in?

I believe life is a perception and life is fragile and your writing makes me think. I believe in hope as long as we can hold out for it. Life deals us lessons that sometimes we cannot look at too closely or too long or we may vanish.....Great writing by the way......Kyam

A splendid metaphor, yes....we CAN change the "channel" and move on whenever we choose, but the truth is we often are stuck in rut. Your spirituality shines in this write. I think we all need to believe in SOMETHING....whether that something is the G-d you believe in or not is another story. A very enjoyable philosophical read. Lydi**

I believe we all need to believe in something ... for if we do not believe, we have no hope, no aspiration. A life ending in oblivion is not worth living.

Intrigued at where this tale is leading, keep writing :)
