The Virgin's Lullaby

The Virgin's Lullaby

A Poem by Grace Elizabeth Fleming
"

The opening poem to the novel "The House of Sever"

"
Come fingers
Do your work
Stitch, play, make, write
Write.
Write of a heart, purer than pure
A boat bearing precious cargo
The fawn in respite, the cat in slumber
The rose basking its petals in the sun
All drifting, in eager peace
Sending billows into the ocean
Of white waves rolled against hullside
Like the curls of maids
Done up in ribbons
For the sake of ribbons
And wrapped by silks
For nothing but the sake of silk
With, perhaps, a better understanding of love
Than the loved
And a better disposition for knowledge
Than the knowing
Come, my fingers, find this heart for me
For on the other side
There is a shore
Wherever that may be
But until then, we will sail
On a free-spun wind
And a loving tide.

You are a amazing writer. I like the gentle statements and the desire to touch the shore, tide and the wind.
"With, perhaps, a better understanding of love
Than the loved
And a better disposition for knowledge
Than the knowing"
A very good ending to a excellent poem.

I love to write. But you probably have that one figured out already. Why else would I be here? Poems are my favorite. You're just about guaranteed a sense of completion when you set out to write.. more..
