Ode to Jesus Christ

Ode to Jesus Christ

A Poem by Emily Shae

A hopeless sinner
Condemned to die a traitor

Living in the dark

A little lamb gone astray

Now that’s all in the past

No time for looking back

I must keep moving forward

Today I serve Jesus Christ

The Alpha and Omega

The hope and light to my starless night

My guide, my friend, my stronghold

When I was in need, He came and recued me

In my weakness His strength is made perfect

His holy grace He gave freely

Me?

Worthy?

I am unworthy of such love

Of the gift of grace He gave me

There must be something He wants in return

How will I ever repay Him for this lavish gift?

I have nothing to give that would be fitting for a King

My earthly possessions cannot compare to His brilliance

But He does not require anything

Only that I believe and confess with my heart

That He is Lord

And with my confession I receive His gift of grace

It wasn’t of works that I could boast

But of His mercy and love for me

That I am saved through the sanctity of Christ Jesus

Hallelujah!

The debt has been paid

And I have been made new

A new creation

I have been born again

An adopted daughter of the Holy One
