Nothing

Nothing

A Poem by Grace Revell

You placed your hand on mine
and our fingers intertwined,
you drew circles on my wrist
with your scarred thumb
and everything began to fall
away from beneath me.

When you breathed my name,
I had nothing left to lose.
You created patterns on the back
of my frozen hand, connecting
lines to make tiny masterpieces and
they felt like a secret I couldn't keep.

I wanted to reach up and trace
the features on your face, but
whenever I thought about shifting
my weight your eyes would fall on
mine and I'd be thrown into a maze
that I didn't want to escape.
