Chapter 9

A Chapter by Melissa Ashley

“What do you mean your husband’s?”

Looking up her eyes were glazed over as she told me to follow her outside.

“I’m not sure I’m allowed outside.”

“We’re just going to the garden. It’s a place I go to be by myself.”

“Um ok but can I have my ring back I’ve never taken it off since I’ve learned of his death. It means the world to me.”

Without saying anything she started walking, forcing me to follow. Once we were outside she went and sat on a stone bench.

“Kate, what I’m about to tell you is going too hard on you and me both but it’s time you should know.”

I looked at her blankly.

“Don’t interrupt me till I am finished with this story.”

“Sure.”

“Once upon a time a mother was giving birth to her firstborn child. An unusual man came in and whispered in her ear that the baby that she was having would grow up to be a killer. Frightened the mother asked the doctors to make the man leave. The doctors thought she was crazy. They kept telling her that nobody was there but the mother could see him. As the doctors laid the baby in her arms. The man looked at her and just shook his head saying that he warned her. He came up to the baby and placed his hand on the baby’s head. The baby once crying, stopped crying all together. The mother tried to stop the man but her body was frozen still. Not being able to do anything she called out to her husband praying that he would walk in the door. Not even a minute later her husband walked in the door holding a sword. He took one look at the man and rushed over to him plunging the sword in his stomach. The man stopped chanting but said one sentence that made the mothers blood run cold.

Laissez le pouvoir de cet enfant tuer l'homme impitoyable.

The mother thought she was going insane at seeing her husband lift the man up off the floor and throw him out the window. Her husband came up to her careessing her face as she was gently lulled to sleep. When she awoke her baby was not in her arms. Panicking she cried out and her husband rushed to her side.

“Where is my baby?”

“The doctors took it to get its shots.”

Pleased that her baby was okay the mother asked to go home. So they got their baby and was sent home. On the way back she asked her husband if the man in the room actually happened. He looked at her and sighing he nodded yes, telling her that the baby was okay though.

“But the man was hurting my baby and said that she would kill man merciless. I don’t want my baby to be a killer.” She said hysterically.

“I will protect her; nobody will touch her while I’m standing by her side.”

Three years later they went on a cruise happy that their child was normal. But as the mother was walking by she heard her daughter’s voice quietly talking to a man. As she walked in she was looking for the man that she heard her daughter talking to. Finding him in the corner she could tell he was dead by the unnatural way he was sitting. Her little girl was sitting in front of him peering up at her waiting for a response. The mother thought she could hide what her daughter done but her husband walked in somehow sensing her distress. He took one look at the man and his daughter and then sent her away to a prison. That if she tried her hardest she could escape using her powers. But the father whispered a forget spell in her ear.”

I didn’t know what to say but as the tears streamed down Deloris’s face the truth sunk in my mind. I gasped and in an instant I was running, running away from Deloris, away from my father, away from Joel, away from everything. Deloris could have pushed the button to shock me whenever she wanted but even if she did I would never stop running.
