Chapter 7A Chapter by Melissa AshleyI awoke to somebody pouring water into my mouth. I opened my eyes and choked on the water. The girl from the cafeteria was standing over me, staring into my eyes. “Oh sorry!! Joel she is up!! I almost killed
her so you better hurry.” She yelled out the door. Two minutes later Joel came
in. He took one look at me and cringed. “What?” I said self- consciously. “Nothing...” He trailed off looking perplexed.
I ran my fingers through my hair. “Is there somewhere I can clean up?” “Oh. Yeah around the corner first door on the
left.” I stood up my bones aching. “Sarah can you give Kate a clean pair of clothes?” The girl from the cafeteria returned with a
band t-shirt and ripped black jeans. “I wasn’t sure what size shoe you wore so I
just brought you my friends combat boots. Oh and by the way your underwear and
bra is already in the bathroom.” She whispered the last part into my ear. A
laugh escaped my throat. Who thought that escaping prison, being kidnapped from
the woods, and feinting in front of this whole place that I would end up here
with this girl. She looked at me like I was insane. “Sorry it’s kind of been a few long days.” She
looked at me and burst out laughing. “And Joel thinks you’re the Chosen One. Wow! I
don’t see it, I just don’t. Sorry if I am offending you I just don’t have a
filter.” She laughed one more time and then saw my face. “What?” “What do you mean the Chosen One?” “You know the story don’t ya?” She looked
skeptical. I played it off cool. “No, I’m forgetful I would forget my head if it
wasn’t attached to my body.” I forced a laugh. “Well I’ll tell you while we are walking to the
washroom.” “Okay.” We walked out the door waving bye to a
camera that she pointed out to me. “So, prophecy says that a young girl like
yourself will rise as a powerful reaper. Her power shall be forgotten in her
childhood and unused for more than a decade but shall return in the few days
that are leading up to war. She will fall for another reaper whom she will die
for in the midst of battle.” I signaled her to stop. “Okay so what I’m sixteen, I went to prison and
didn’t use my “gift” for thirteen years. I don’t have any of the other
requirements. I do not have my power back yet much less know how to use it and
I sure as hell am not in love with anybody on this planet.” She looked taken
aback with my words. “Well I’ll just leave you to it then.” She stiffly
turned and walked away. © 2016 Melissa Ashley |
