Chapter 6

Chapter 6

A Chapter by Melissa Ashley

As we headed down to breakfast we passed a room that had crying and screaming coming from behind it. I looked at Joel, pain flashed in his eyes. I didn’t say anything in fear that whatever was wrong with Joel he would tell me about it when he wanted. Joel walked at brisk pace after that and I had to jog to keep up with him. He stopped suddenly causing me to run into him from behind.

“Kate.” He turned around there was pain laced in his words. Suddenly my vision turned dark and before I knew what I was doing I wrapped my arms around Joel’s neck and kissed him with all my heart and mind, pressing against him to get closer. He kissed me back at first but pulled back as it got more heated.

“Kate…stop.”

“I don’t understand Joel. You either a sweet romantic guy or a total dick. I can’t please someone who can’t make up their damn mind what they want. So last chance do you want me or not? Because if not tell me now. I’m waiting.” I said impatiently.

“Just please you don’t know what kind of effect you have on me.” I nodded and walked into the cafeteria leaving Joel behind me.

Everywhere I looked there were people of all shapes and sizes, race and color, and age and height. A girl across the cafeteria caught my attention. She was talking to a boy that looked familiar. I walked over without realizing what I was doing and found myself face to face with the girl. She stopped talking and looked at me.

“Can I help you?” Her quiet voice seemed to carry over everybody else’s.  I was hit with déjà vu, she looked exactly like my best friend from when I was just a little girl.

“Do you mind to show me around” I mumbled. She smiled and waved by to the boy.

“Of course I’m always glad to help the newcomers.” She turned to look at me more carefully.

“Hey! Do I know you, you seem pretty familiar?”

“Umm, I’m not sure…”

“Do you mind?” She pointed to my neck.

“No! Go right ahead.”

She lifted up my hair and squealed.

“Katie-Lou!!!” I shuddered nobody has ever called since I saw my father last. She went to hug me but my legs collapsed. I closed my eyes, I didn’t want to see or hear her anymore. It reminded me too much of the past.
