Chapter 2

Chapter 2

A Chapter by Melissa Ashley

We made our way down the hallway to the exit door. “Something’s off, it shouldn’t be this easy”. I muttered.

Joel kept his gun at hand ready to shoot anything that moved. I kept my daggers in their casings but I kept my gun  ready even though I didn’t want to kill anybody else.. We tip-toed past the guard center and we almost made it but a guard just had to turn the f**k around. I took aim and shot him right in the neck, before any other guard had time to react we took off running towards the exit. The alarms were sounded and we barely made it to the door before it was bolted shut. I looked at my watch we had exactly three minutes before they would be here " slaughtering  us - so we did what we did best... we ran.

Joel sat down and sighed heavily.

“We need to leave now they’re going to be here any second!”  I looked around at our surroundings, we were outside in an open field that seperated into a V. I picked up a rock and tossed it down one of the paths it rolled then the ground exploded.

“This way.” I said, pulling Joel down  the other unkept path.

We did’t stop running until we knew we were safe egnough to stop and make camp in the woods. After everything was set up I sat down on an old tree stump and sighed. Joel glanced over at me and smiled.

What did we just do? They could easily find us here! We need to keep moving but Joel thinks its safe and that’s his weakness and it’s going to kill him someday. I thought tiredly but I smiled back at him. I looked away still in lost in thought that I didn’t notice Joel get up and walk away.

“Hey Joel....?” I questioned. “Joel”? I cleared my head and got up. Joel was nowhere to be found. I started panicking, why wasn’t he answering me? I went deeper in the woods still looking and I saw something flash by out of the corner of my eye.

“Joel”? As I was turning around something hit me in the back of my head forcing me to my knees.

“You shouldn’t go in the woods by yourself...” I looked up just as a man slammed a rock against my temple and the world went dark.
