A Poem by Maggi Derosa

Put the devil down and

I was standing

on a beach

a plane went by

low overhead

and I reached up and

put my love on

its wings

and in an instant it

was out of reach

and I was sobbing

from the loss

sobbing with relief

mixed up - watching

it rise and shrink

and dissapear

Do you remember

the night I told you

I love you

and you asked why

and I told you

any of the words I

could put it into

until my fear took over

and I said

you know

and the moment faded

to our almost normal

again?

Did I tell you that night

so when it didn't go

the way I've dreamed

we could mutually pretend

it hadn't happened,

Or it's just

me pretending?

Doesn't matter either

way anyhow

I put this all

on that plane

and it hasn't landed yet
