We wish to see change
We wish for a better world But isn’t that a bit strange? Because as much as we want change, We don’t do nothing to make this a better place You’ve seen the little boy in the streets filled with fear Lying in the concrete because he does not have a bed to go to sleep at night You’ve seen him shed more than one tear And it burns out the light You care, and you want a change for that little boy But all you do is pass the boy Day by day And you do not speak You’ve seen the women struggling, too poor for this and that Not even enough for a hat To keep her warm and safe from the winter blaze It breaks your heart And as she struggles it tears her apart But all you do is stare Afraid to speak up You’ve seen and you’ve heard the racial slurs that come out of ten year olds Directed to the small girl and boy Whose skin color is darker than yours Such hateful words And they say sticks and stones may break my bones But words will never hurt me Well that’s a lie Because words hurt and you know it But all you do is listen Filled with fear that words will turn into stones And you do not speak up We wish to see change We wish for a better world But isn’t that a bit strange? Because as much as we want change, We don’t do nothing to make this a better place © 2017 emeraldAuthor's Note
