Desire

Desire

A Poem by Becky
"

It's a lovely torturous thing.

"

Desire is a beast of a feeling.

This desperate wanting, yearning, and longing,

Yet never that which is easily attainable.

Desire is the one that stops me dead in my tracks,

And breaks me down.

It shows me what I truly long for,

Showing me that which is so far out of reach.

Desire is an intoxicating melody,

So familiar,

Yet unidentifiable.

My heart yearns for someone,

Somewhere,

Somehow.

So many different things my heart wants,

But very few it desires.

I’ve tried ignoring it,

I’ve tried denying it,

But it’s always there.

Tormenting me to madness.

I can momentarily escape the torture in my slumber,

But it haunts my every waking hour.

Desire; How I hate it,

And yet how I love it so.

Hi Becky,

Your descriptions of desire ring mostly true for this reader. I suppose the piece is fine in its current form, but you also might consider stringing the descriptions to some specific narrative from your life. Just a thought. :)
