Thoughts While You're Here

A sort of sequel to my previous post that I wrote while I was with my partner.

My whole world is artificial.

My fear is so great

That I have to dream of you

And engineer my intimacy,

And leave you to drown by yourself.

Are we real?

Are we a projection,

Doing what we were programmed to?

Or are we two human bodies,

Pressed together in the darkness,

Feeling our breaths intertwine?

Do you really want me?

Do you really yearn for my heart,

Or do you just want to protect me

From a reality you want to ignore?

Are you safe,

Or are you another ghost from the past?
