Starting Over

A Poem by Dylan Cook

There was a man who lived with his father

His father mistreated him and his mother

His dad found out he had a male lover

So his home life with his father was over

So even when things can’t get any worse

And life seems like an awful awful curse

Believe in yourself don’t be mean or terse

Remember that being positive comes first

Nothing in life is ever certain

He said except misery and pain

Bad things happen again and again

So nothing will ever be the same

So even when things can’t get any worse

And life seems like an awful awful curse

Believe in yourself don’t be mean or terse

Remember that being positive comes first

He lived on the street with his boyfriend

They found shelter and a home in the end

Things began looking up around the bend

And their friends could lend a helping hand

So even when things can’t get any worse

And life seems like an awful awful curse

Believe in yourself don’t be mean or terse

Remember that being positive comes first
