Alexa decided to treat herself.  A full on girly day, shopping, lunch, an afternoon getting her hair and make up done, she planned on looking perfect for that night.  It was going to be a very important night, one she was sure would be remembered for a long time.

She started with the shoes, shoes were very important to her, she liked to plan the rest of her outfits around the shoes, the pinch of a new pair of high heels gave her an almost sexual rush of pleasure.  A good hour or two was spent shoe shopping, black stilettos, pink kitten heels, a deep purple court shoe, white strappy wedges, all of them were gorgeous but none were quite what she had in mind for that night.  As she turned with a half sigh, thinking perhaps of trying another shop she fell in love, suddenly in front of her were the perfect pair of shoes.

They were red, not blood red but a cheery bright red, they drew the eye almost magnetically.  Picking them up as if they were some sacred religious artefact Alexa studied them appraisingly, the material was soft and delicate, it would dirty quite quickly if she wasn’t careful but then again there wasn’t much walking planned for that evening.  Just above the heels, which were a highly polished silver there was a small red ribbon, looking inside the shoe to see the size she let out a fairly audible gasp.  This had to be kismet, they were her size!

The rest of the shopping trip passed without incident, she found a small red dress in a similar material to her shoes and a lovely silver thick silver bracelet.  Later in the afternoon she spent an enjoyable time at the hairdressers, she kept her eyes closed and didn’t talk much explaining that she liked to just lie back and think whilst going through any beauty treatments, but secretly she simply enjoyed listening to the conversations of the other customers who took her shut eyes to mean she was asleep, once or twice a small smile played at her naturally plump limps when she heard whispered “Isn’t that Alexa Mc--?” “The singer yeah, wow she looks great, all things considered…” “Oh yeah, that.  What a tragedy.”

The smile stopped as quickly as it began.  But still the day could have been worse all things considered.

She drover herself home and got changed, put her make up on and looked in the mirror appraisingly.  The dress clung to her curves pleasingly enough and the shoes made her legs look miles longer than they were, her raven hair hung around her head in soft cloud that came to her shoulders, her mouth was a shocking dash of scarlet and her eyes were smoky smudges of black around the light green pupils.

She looked great, all things considered.

She lay on her bed to catch her breath for a moment before the event.  She had been planning this for a long time now.  Picking up the flowered notebook next to her bedside table and began writing a quick note for her daughter Brianna’s nanny, then she shut her eyes.

3 hours later.

Danny Wolf arrived at the penthouse apartment, when he saw the body on the bed clad in red he let out a cry of “S**t”

It was true then, Alexa McBain was dead.  He walked up to his partner and asked what had happened; he was not surprised when he learned she had killed herself.

Clutched in her hand had been the note

“Dear Matilda,

First I want to thank you for all the years you have helped look after me and my family, I know your presence has been a strong comfort, especially to Brianna after Kris killed himself 3 months ago.  You were certainly there for her more than I was and I know she loves you like the mother she deserved which is why I want you to continue raising her, I also leave you my entire fortune in whatever state it is currently in.

For so long now I have felt as though I were walking through mud with no hope of finding my way out, every day without him is like a knife to chest, or a bullet to the brain…

I just can’t go on like this, not any longer.

I am sorry.

Please let Brianna know how much I love her.

Alexa”

In the next room, being rocked by the nanny Brianna McBain cried for her mother who had killed herself just as her father had done 3 months earlier.  The small calibre gun she had used to shoot herself was lying on the floor next to small puddle of congealed blood, in the midst of which one of Alexa’s new shoes was lying where it had fallen off of her foot; the blood stained the silver heel.

Danny stood over the bed looking at the dead superstar and he had to admit she looked great, all things considered.
