In Search of Self Through S&GA Poem by LaleI lie beside the river on a dim afternoon, and I think to myself.. Why there are times to stay put, steadily and without wavering? And then times to fade away, Like a sober sunset leaving a bloody twilight But also times to sing hymns and dream? “Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme” I sing to myself Till I fall asleep... It’s been a journey indeed To there and never back Where Orange trees are always blooming Because Persephone is home So it is spring every day Let it be spring, always. O’ God how I love the scent of Orange flowers! Then the song ends and I gaze at the sky The sun is hidden by cottons Or clouds, I can hardly tell “Hello darkness my old friend.” I sing again It is a rainy December Between 6 and 7 pm Lost in the noise, in the middle of a familiar vacuum Faceless people I reckon I look at my hands and see the ground through them Why am I disappearing? “And whispered the sound of silence.” I tiredly wake up Not knowing if I’m real or illusion It feels good, though “I’m a rock, I’m an island.’’ Why would I be? “Cause a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries.” Ahh! Okay.© 2020 Lale
