Route 66 Hipster

Route 66 Hipster

A Poem by John
"

Old hippy traveled Route 66 from Amarillo to New Mexico. His journey brings him psychedelic visions in kaleidoscopic hallucinations as he crosses the threshold on his quest for New Mexico.

"

Route 66 Hipster

The road melts into tar dream
Asphalt pours in buckets of black
He angles his sight into blurry shoulder
Ancient rock outcropping a focal point

Deep in Texas Panhandle land sea
Blues for a blue nation
He left his heart in Amarillo
Sanity the last to go

Highway drips in river of ink
Till acceleration overcomes fear
Salvation lies ahead like resurrected Jesus
Eyes focus on fractal sky

He sails over horizon
Into cloud of carmine
Grateful Dead on stereo
Sing him to New Mexico

Cool Poem. I'm in my fifties and often long for the days of old. I traveled 66 many years ago and can only imagine what cross country travel was like during its heyday. Google 1960s Highways and check out videos of a very different world.
I could be the hippy in your story; but would have something obscure on the stereo. The Greatful Dead is too mainstream to be Hip =)
