LETS PRETEND I WAS RIGHT

LETS PRETEND I WAS RIGHT

A Poem by Tegan
"

2014 was a weird year

"
LETS PRETEND INSTEAD OF SMOKING MY FIRST CIGARETTE
I WAS HOLDING YOUR HAND, LETS PRETEND
THAT INSTEAD OF KISSING IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE BUS
SOME BOY WHO DIDN'T EVEN KNOW MY MIDDLE NAME
I WAS KISSING YOU
LETS PRETEND THAT INSTEAD OF HOSPITAL WALLS
I GOT TO LEARN THE PATTERN IN YOUR CEILING, LET'S PRETEND
I WAS RIGHT- THAT YOU STILL LOVED ME AND THAT
NO MATTER WHAT, I COULD TALK TO YOU, LETS PRETEND
YOU AREN'T A MESS, A DISASTER AREA
AND LETS PRETEND I'M NOT EITHER, AND LET'S PRETEND WE STILL TALK
HOW ABOUT THAT?
INSTEAD OF WRITING THIS POEM MAYBE I'D BE WRITING
ONE ABOUT YOU BUT LOVE POEMS WERE NEVER MY THING
BUT YOU WERE, OH GOD, YOU WERE
LET'S PRETEND THIS POEM ISN'T ABOUT YOU
AND LET'S PRETEND THAT IN 4 MONTHS I COULD LOOK YOU IN THE EYE
BUT I GUESS NOT, HERE WE ARE HERE WE ARE
OH GOd i miss you.
