Chapter 3

A Chapter by MusicandWritingFan
"

Iris tells the truth to her best friend, Celisse and turns out that Celisse's Mother might know more about fairy humans.

"
The whole rest of my weekend instead of putting all of my effort on celebrating my 18th birthday birthday it was spent trying to come up with a plan on how to hide the color of my eye, I tried contact lenses but my eyes didn't accept them, making me not see well when I had them on so I just decided to wear my sunglasses to school tomorrow. The lips I would have to lie and say I wear red lipstick eventhough my lips are truly red permanently.

"Hello Mrs. Muller may I speak with Celisse for a few minutes, please." I asked friendly Mrs. Muller, Celisse's Mom over the phone.

"Oh hello Iris, Happy birthday! I heard from Celisse that your birthday was yesterday, did it go well?"

"Yes it did," I lied.

"Well that's great! I'm sorry Celisse couldn't go visit you yesterday but she had to accompany me to my sister's wedding ceremony. I'll call her so you girls can catch up on your talk."

"Celisse! It's your friend, Iris! She wants to speak with you on the phone!"

I could surely hear her and can tell that she's been awfully missing me since last Friday eventhough it was only two days of not seeing each other. I laughed thinking of her not in a mean way but in a good friendly way.

"Oh my Gosh! Iris you wouldn't believe how much I missed you and more when I found out just yesterday that Saturday was your birthday, YOUR 18th BIRTHDAY!" She gushed excitedly.

My face blushing as if she was with me announcing to everyone about my birthday.

"Come on Celisse it's not a big deal, it was only my 18th birthday party, but different this time."

"What do you mean this time it was different?" She sounded worried.

"Well you'll have to find out today if you come to my house at 5pm sharp."

"Aww! Iris I was really wishing you would tell me over the phone, you know how bored I get just doing homework!" She complained comically which made me laugh.

"Uh, uh, Miss Muller it's either today or wait until tomorrow at school, you decide."

"Dang it! Iris why do you have to make this so hard for me?"

I laughed once more secretly enjoying her anger towards me, luckily she's a really understanding and nice person.

Finding out from your parents about a secret well-hidden from them is tough but it's even more tough trying to find a less confusing way to tell other people especially a person more close to you, a friend. But some way or another I had to tell her for she was bound to know sooner or later.

I went to the living room where my Aunt and Dad were reading "The DaVinci Code" for the fifth time.

"Just so you guys know," I announced earnestly, "I am planning on telling my friend, Celisse the truth today."

"That's good honey, it's time everyone knows the truth of your true identity, that is why your Aunt posted on her Facebook and blog the story of your true identity."

"What?!!" I yelled raging with anger at them. "Why did you do that? I was going to tell the whole school and community myself!" I just couldn't stand looking at her, my eyes burning at the sight of her. "Why did you have to FREAKING MESS THINGS UP!!! I HATE YOU!!!"

I went running out the door only wanting to run away from home. I could hear my dad yelling for me to come back but I ignored him running as fast as possible until I couldn't hear him or feel his feelings. thoughts, and emotions.

God why did something like this have to happen to me? Why can't I just be a totally normal human being just like everyone else in this planet.

I laid down feeling tired, in a lonely park; closing my eyes I imagined that I was Stevie Nicks wearing the same clothes that she wears on my favorite album "Rumours." wearing a crown of flowers on my head I am free dancing around outside a wide open field of sunflowers, enjoying the air dance around me, smiling at the beautiful sunset whispering how beautiful and normal life is.

Too busy that I was with my imagination running wild, as usual that I didn't notice someone starring at me with concern and curiousness. "Are you okay?"

I opened my eyes embarrassed as ever, my face blushing more than ever as I saw that it was Mark Sailing, arguably the most cutest guy in school and the most admired and liked by not just the girls in school and neighborhood but also well-respected by the grown-ups in this community or his contributions in community service.

"I'm okay it's just that I was laying down here in the grass, it looked so good and inviting that I just wanted to stop and rest after running for a while." I stood up from the grass feeling as good as ever.

I was waiting hoping he would mention something about me but he never did, he was nice though and caring. The whole way home he talked to me about his basketball team and about his family beach trip coming up in July. It was comforting to listen to someone speak about the normal world. Upon reaching Grayer Street which is close to where I live, he gave me a piece of paper, I read it realizing it was his phone number. On the bottom it said Call me!:) We smiled at each other and waved goodbye.

I opened the door, my Aunt and Dad standing up probably trying to get me to understand their point of view but I didn't feel like it. "I still don't want to talk to you, but I do understand now that I am a human fairy. By the way Celisse is coming so if you hear a knock please answer it."

My Dad went up to me, "Your behavior is completely unacceptable , apologize to us right this minute."

I laughed, "Why should I? When you and my Aunt kept a secret hidden from me for years, isn't that unacceptable also, Dad?" I closed the door right in his face. Now you must be thinking that I am being one cruel daughter to my own family but I just couldn't stand the fact that they did something like this to me. I somehow had to make them feel the pain I was experiencing right now.

It was five o' clock when she came.

"Okay I came right away before my Mom would order me to do something else." She sat on my bed, "Out with it, what is it?"

"I have a secret to tell you, it's a secret that my parents have been keeping away from me for years and that I just found out on my 18th birthday. I'm a human fairy, Celisse." I knew how she felt but I didn't want to tell her. I thought she was going to go run away from my room and my house thinking that I was a total freak but she didn't instead:

She screamed out loud not with horror or fear but with complete excitement. "Oh my gosh! You must be joking right?" She jumped and laughed.

I took off my sunglasses "Celisse I am not joking I am saying the truth, look at my face."

She screamed once more this time really loud "Oh my Gosh!" She got closer to me almost examining my eyes and touching my really red lips. "It is true you are a fairy." She gazed at me with her wide eyes. You know you look just like the fairies I have seen in my Mom's encyclopedia of mythical creatures."

It was quiet for a while, "Listen, I can take you to see my Mom. She is a writer and expert on fairies and God knows what, but she knows every single fairy myth. She even knows all of the different types of fairies that exist."

I looked at myself in the mirror. "I don't know, Celisse I actually do look like one except for my eyes are kind of oval-looking like a fairy. Maybe I do want to know more about them and maybe, just maybe find out anything about my species."

MWF, I love this, but I am a sucker for fairies and fairy stories. The only thing I saw that could be fixed was the following line:

"Listen (should be comma) I can take you to see my Mom (.) Capitalize 's' in "she"--> she is a writer and expert on fairies and God knows what, but she knows every single fairy myth and legend (period) (get rid of and) Start new sentence "She" even knows all of the (add word "different" types of fairies that exist."

However, that being said....an excited teenager will be running at the mouth full out and tripping over her normal language patterns...and most likely will not be constructing grammatically correct language to her friend who she just discovered is a fairy, so take my suggestions or not. It's your call. Great write, though!
