A Nighttime Prayer For Lovers

A Nighttime Prayer For Lovers

A Poem by Paul D. Aronson

“A Nighttime Prayer For Lonely Lovers”

Come to me my truest love

In these long nighttime hours

Where the dark envelops my dreams

Creating empty shadows where you should be

Lying at my side skin to skin

Hearts racing against one another

Breaths cascading into one’s ear

Lips exploring every untouched place

Of the heart’s secret fantasies.

It’s these times among those I dread

The emptiness that comes to me

Whenever you are not here in my arms

Wrapped around me in solitude

Content to be against me in silence

Save the murmuring of sighs and gasps

That comes every time our fingertips

Find the places of love we must kiss

each time we’re together.

Oh this sad, sad lament of night

That I pen just for you

If it could only bring you here to my side

To stay, to live in these arms forevermore

I would pen thousands more

If only, if only you would come

Come to me my truest love

In these long nighttime hours and stay.

This one is a beauty from first word to last.
