Ava's Good Bye

Ava's Good Bye

A Chapter by Miss Sally Sunshine

*Ava's perspective*

I leaned back in my chair. I had just finished telling Avery and Nol about the new mission we had to go on.

Nolan didn't seem very shocked. "Oh goodie." He smirked. Nol stood up and streched. "Well, might as well get packing."

Avery just sat in his chair, very ridged. I couldn't help but admire his strong jaw and dark eyes.

He just glared over at me. I gave him a weak smile and reached for his hand.

His expression soften as he grabbed my hand, but his eyes stayed cool and hard.

"Babe? Come on Avery, say something. Anything." I begged, pleaded.

Avery sighed but relented. "I don't want you to go."

I closed my eyes hard for a second, trying to keep the tears from leaking out of my eyes. I don't cry in front of everyone. Especially when I have to be strong.

After a second I open my eyes and look up at Avery. I give him a small, sad smile. "I don't want to either. But Jade needs me."

His eyebrows knit together before he lets out a long sigh. "If you're leaving for God knows how long, then we're going to do our last night right." Avery stands up, not letting go of my hand, and tugs me out of my chair and into the kitchen door.

"We'll have a romantic candle light picnic by the lake, dance in the moonlight, lay under the stars, all that jazz. How's that sound, sweetheart?" Avery said, with that goofy little smile of his.

I laughed a litte. "Okay, whatever you say."

"What? Don't girls like all that romantic stuff?" He teases.

"Well, I'm not like most girls." I retort smoothly with a smile.

Avery laughs. "Certainly not." He steps closer to me and kisses my cheek. "I'm going to go get some candles."

I opened up the fridge and start taking out all the things I need to make our food. I start to fry up some ground turkey for a taco salad, Avery's favorite, when he comes back into the kitchen.

"Oh no. Not tonight. Tonight I'm going to do everything." Avery says as he takes the spatula out of my hand.

I stand next to him, a hand on my hip, and glare up at him. "No, if it's our last night together I want to spend every minute together, even if that means making food." I wrinkle my nose at the end like it's the worst thing in the world I could think off.

Avery laughed at my expression and touched with my nose with one finger. "Go get dressed like this is date. I'll take care of the rest."

I pouted, but eventually gave in and stomped up the stairs like a little kid. I could hear Avery laughing down below, which just made me smile.

I walked into Melissa's room, which she was letting me borrow. I didn't want to take it, but she said she sleeps on the couch every night anyday, so I should just take it.

I opened up my duffle bag and shifted through it, looking for a certain dress. It took me a minute, but I finally yanked it out from underneath all my other clothes.

It was a really nice dress, which I have no idea why I brought it... Maybe just because I liked it so much.

It had a black bodice that came down just above the tops of my ribs. Then it ruffled down in different color purples to just above my knees. It was pretty and simple. Pretty much the only simple thing left in my life.

I slipped into my dress and just brushed my hair, adding a tiny bit of jell to keep it under control. I also brushed my teeth, and applied a few fresh swips of my red lip stain. I touched up my eye make-up and put on a pair of black strappy heels that I found in the corner of Melissa's bedroom.

I look over at the clock. It's actually been longer than I thought, about fourty minutes. I quickly adjust my dress for the umpteenth time and step out of the room... Straight into Seth, and he's sweaty.

I quickly take a step back, away from him. I don't want to ruin my dress. "What's wrong woth you?" I ask, kind of snarky, but hey! That's who I am.

He glared at me, but eventually spat out, "Jade kissed your friend, Nolan."

I stared at him. "Seth, there's a difference. Jade didn't kiss him, he kissed her. I was there, she was completely taken by surprise and was stunned for the entire time before she pushed HIM off."

Seth's expression softened a bit. "But he's still going away with you guys."

I rolled my eyes. "For a reason! Who loves Jade even more than me? Who would do anything for her? Who is practically her dad? Nolan. She needs him. We have been through everything together and we're not going to break that tradition now."

Seth just stood there staring at me for a minute, then stalked past me up to his room, mumbling something incoherant, but I knew he saw my logic.

I took a deep breath then headed for the stairs. For some reason my heart was beating really fast in the apprehension of seeing Avery and the fact that this was the last I would see of him for a while. No Ava! I mentally slapped myself, dont think about that!

I made it safely down the stairs and I turned the corner headed into the kitchen, I stopped just before the door way and peeked in.

Avery was standing in the corner in a black dress shirt, white dress pants, and a white tie, eating grapes. Popping one after another of those little green grapes into his mouth.

I smiled to myself and stepped around the corner. "You're going to ruin your appetite." I fake scolded.

Avery quickly swallowed the grape that was already in his mouth, and smiled at me. "Horrible habit."

I laughed. "What? Eating?"

Avery made a face at me, and made his voice sound really arrogant and stuff. "No! Neavous eating, of course."

I just cracked up. It was just to hysterical. "Yeah okay." I tried to wipe away my tears with out smudging my make-up.

"You look positively gorgeous by the way." Avery complimented me, as he came over and grabbed my hand.

I smiled up at him. "And you look quiet dashing yourself." I said.

He smiled back at me and bent down and kissed my cheek. "Thank you, darling."

Avery pulled open the back door and we stepped out into the cool night air.

We walked slowly towards the lake, whispering to one another, trying not to disturb the peacfulness.

My feet were killing me, but I didn't want to wreck Avery's mood so I just stayed quiet and hoped we were almost to the lake.

We eventually made it to a spot that Avery dubbed worthy. It was still on the grass, a few feet from the rocky shore, and under a cherry blossum tree. The moon was only a little sliver of silver in the sky, hanging over the lake.

That's when I remembered what Grandma Thora had said. We were going to, some how, harrness those silver rays and turn them into a weapon. The ultimate weapon.

I sighed quietly and tried to forget about tomrorrow. Even though my sigh was quiet, it was not quiet enough. Avery was at my side in less than two seconds.

He grabbed both my hands in his and looked me straight in the eye. "Ava. What's wrong, darling?"

I couldn't look him in the eye, especially when he said "darling". It made me want to melt into him and cry, but I had to be strong. So I pulled myself together, looked up at Avery, into his green eyes, and smiled.

"These shoes are killing me, that's what's wrong."

Avery smiled back at me and laughed. "Then let me lay down the blanket so you can take of the dreadful heels."

"What?" I teased. "You don't like them? I thought they made my legs look incrediable."

Avery gave me a look. "Now don't turn this on me! You said you didn't like those shoes, so I was agreeing! But, I do, in fact, think those shoes make your legs look fantastic... But you always look fantastic to me."

Avery flashed a quick smile at me and returned to setting the blanket on the ground. But I couldnt wait that long, my toes were practically screaming. I reached down and deftly undid the strap of one shoe. I slide my foot out, and placed it on the cold, damp grass. I could feel all the blood rush back to my foot.

It felt so good I did the same to my other foot. I just stood there, staring at my feet in the cool grass.

"Are you going to stand there all night? Come over here." Avery's voice broke through my trance. I looked up and smiled.

He was already seated on the picnic blanket and he had already set up everything. The candles were flickering softly and the plates were placed formally.

I walked slowly over and sat down on the blanket. "I was just enjoying the grass." I informed him.

"Well now you get to enjoy the food, darling." Avery said still smiling, but sadly, like he was thinking about tomorrow too.

"Hmmm. I would be able to enjoy it, if there was any food." I smirked.

"What?" Avery gasped melodramatically, and a little too over done. "You think I ate it all on you?!"

I sat down on the blanket, as elegant as I could. "Yes, in fact I do think that." I smirked at him.

"How much do you want to bet that there's still food in there?" Avery asked. He had that certain gleam in his eye. I, of course, knew there was still food in there, but I wasn't going to miss out on an oppurtunity to kiss him.

"Hmmmm... You've already promised a dance, food, and laying under the stars, yet we havent done any of those things! So what do I want to bet..." I teased him.

"I already know what I want to bet." Avery announced.

"Okay, I'l bite. What do you bet?" I asked.

"I want a night. A night of no stress and just full on romance. My last last gift to you." Avery winked at me.

"Hmmm, I was just going to bet a kiss, but okay." I asnwered, feeling my cheeks warm a bit. "Now stop looking at me like that and give me some food."

Avery smiled at me and did as he was told.

~

After we finished eating our delicious picnic Avery whipped out a CD player. "Old school style." He said as he slid in a CD.

"Van Morrison." I blurt out.

Avery looks over to me, a bit of shock showing  on his face. "Very good!"

He tries to say more, but I hold up my hand and c**k my head to the side, listening. I let out a snicker. "Really? Moondance? A little too perfect I think." I say with a smirk.

Avery steps closer to me and puts one arm around my waist and grabs my hand in his. We slowly revolve in a circle.

"I think it's just perfect, myself. Puts you right into the mood." He whispered in my ear.

I giggled into his shoulder, giddy with the realization that Avery really wanted to do this right. I turned my face towards his. "Hmmmm, maybe your right." I murmered.

"Love, you know I'm right." He whispered as he leaned his face closer to mine.

"Hmmmm." I sighed as I closed that last gap and placed my lips on his.

His let go of my hand and placed it on my cheek, nice and warm. As were his lips, warm and soft.

I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck. The arm he left around my waist tightened, pulling me in even closer. His lips opened, and mine did as well. He sighed into my lips.

I knew he could feel the same thing I did. The same want, almost need, for this kiss. The need to be close together and draw comfort fomr one another. So I didn't fight this kiss, although I knew that later, I would pay for it. But instead I pushed those thoughts out of my head and just focused on him. And me. And us.
