That Gray Mist

That Gray Mist

A Poem by Miss Sally Sunshine

Willow trees crying,

Deep sorrowful songs.

Dipping their reaching

Fingers in the water

Hoping for hope.

But hope is absent.

That Gray Mist,

Is already on

Their doorsteps and

Leaning in to knock

All lights go out.

All candles and fires

Not even a spark

Dare shine it's light.

Not a one, a one.

No animals lurk.

They tremble in

Fear, for you

Never know what

Hides in That Gray Mist.

Are there ghosts?

Are there gouls?

Spooks and frights?

Of course, in there,

They hide, waiting.

Waiting for that one.

The one who knows.

They belong in

That Gray Mist.

With all the worst.

They deserve to

Be in That Gray Mist.

They deserve, you know

they do. As do you.

You do too.
