It's The Little Things

It's The Little Things

A Story by Miss Sally Sunshine

He looked up from his book.

She was sitting on her bed, drumming her pencil on her history book, search for the right sections to put in her notes.

Her chestnut brown hair fell down onto her face, hiding it.

She looked very worrried and extremely tired.

"Hey," he said, placing his book down onto the chair. "Come here."

Her head snapped up at the sound of his voice. She nodded and slowly got off her bed.

He walked over to her window and threw it open. A warm breeze drifted into the window, carrying with it the soft sent of summer.

He moved the chair over so that it faced the window, and sat back down. "Come here." he opened his arms and motioned for her to come to him.

A small smile appeared on her lips. She crossed her arms over her chest and walked willingly over to the boy. Her hazel eyes twinkled.

She took his hand and sat down on his lap. She propped her legs up on the windowsill and laid her head on his shoulder.

He let go of her hand and circled his arms around her.

She closed her eyes and sighed, like the weight of the world had been lifted off her shoulders.

She quickly fell asleep, feeling completely safe in his arms.

He picked up his book, and opened to his page, but he didn't read for awhile. He just watched her sleep, finally peaceful.

*to me, it's the little things, like this boy and girl, that show true love.
