Him

A Chapter by Miss Sally Sunshine

Nolan and Ava and I were together before we were The Five. We lived in the same city and our houses were just streets apart.

We would meet up after school, after our homework was done, and we would just hang out.

Ava, being the oldest, was the one in charge, and if she got bored we would have to do something else.

She like bumming around in the woods, and going to visit the skate park. She really could skate. Even better than half the guys there. She would ask a guy if she could borrow his board, they would always give it to her, and then she would show off for any of the newbies.

When she went to the park Nolan and I would come to. We would sit over on the ground, next to one of the ramps, and we would just watch and talk to each other.

That was usuallly our weeknights.

And that day started out like any other.

Ava wanted to go to the park, so, we went.

"Now sit over there," Ava said, pointing, "and don't move."

Nolan and I trudged over, and Ava danced off, propably to con someone out of their board.

We sat down, watched the skaters for a minute, then got bored and started to talk.

"How's school, kiddo." Nolan asked. I hated when he and Ava called be kiddo, I wasn't that much younger than them.

"God, Nolan! You've asked me that question, like, twelve times today! School's fine!" I laughed.

Nolan frowned and thought of another question to ask, or a topic to talk about. He wasn't the best talker, but he was good company. "Umm..... so..... Oh! How's your book!" he said with a smile, pleased with himself for being able to come up with a question.

"Ohmgodohmygod!" I squealed, he had found the perfect question. I was telling him a detailed summary of what I had read so far, when a guy came over.

He was amazing. Goergeuos, and HOT. His hair was a amazing shade of blonde, with little brown streaks running through it. And his eyes. Oh my God, his eyes! They were the most spectacular things I have every seen! I could barely tear my eyes from his, but I eventually did, but just so I could look at the rest of him.

He had a tall, lean frame. A thin face, long fingers, and, like most men, he had a longer upper body than a lower body.

IHe was just amazing, and i think I fell in love right there.

"Hello." He called down to us.

"Hi!" I called back, turning on my flirty side.

"Hey." Nolan called up.

I scrambled to my feet, and I realized that my height, 5'4, was puny next to his height, which was probably about 6'7.

"I just saw you guys sitting over here, and well, I thought I would come talk to you." His voice was so deep! I loved it!

"Well, I'm glad you did." I said with a smile, flipping my hair over my shoulder. "My name is Jade, and this is Nolan."

He smiled back, obviously picking up on my flirting. "I'm glad I did too. I'm Luca."

"Cool name dude." Nolan commented.

"Thanks." Luca said, but he still didn't take my eyes off me. We just stood there and smiled at each other.

"So, we're just gonna go." Nolan said. He grabbed my arm and pulled me away from Luca.

I tried to pull out of Nolan's grasp, but he was in the middle of puberty, so he was already stronger than me.

"Hey!" Luca called after us, me.

"Nolan!" I yelled wrenching my arm out of his grasp. "What the crap! Why the crap did you just do that! I can't believe you just did that!"

Nolan turned around to face me. Worry was writen all over his face. "Jada," he started, using my favorite nickname, which wasn't really a nickname at all," you're 14, and well, he's like 17. It would never work, it's really just kinda creepy. Besides, I don't like the way he was looking at you, like a hungry wolf!"

I just stared at him. "Nolan," I sighed "there is nothing dangerous with a little harmless flirting!"

Nolan gave me a look, like "Poor, little, slow Jade. She just doesn't understand."

"I didn't like the feeling I was getting from him! It was creepy!" Nolan cried.

"Oh my God, Nolan! You are NOT my dad! You don't have to protect me! Geez!" I huffed. I turned on my heel and stalked off home.

Its is real interesting, the whole setting, is suiting one another, I think Nolan should really drag her away without talking to Jade. When one talk, then there's space for another to argue for ;D

Its a very nice opening to the excited part, it keeps us hooked with the book! I think one of they talent you have is the details of your words. You always give lots of interesting details to the readers!

I happen to agree with Nolan, however. If he was getting a feeling about Luca, then he should trust his gut, and Jade should listen to him. This was a very interesting opening chapter. There are a few spelling and grammar mistakes, however, but I won't mention those ;) Very good! Looking forward to more.

I believe I've heard the Five before somewhere... the Fionevar Tapestry I think. Both stories are completely different, so don't worry about it. Again, this was well done. Your characters are perfect, like I said before, examples of the archetypes. It's not always a bad thing, and I can tell that you're just having fun with this.
