F**k the Dark, and F**k You.A Story by Catie RoseJessica is left in the dark, Tyler comes to the rescue, she does not want him.
Jessica was sitting in the back corner of the store with her knees pulled up under her chin. The room around her went dark suddenly. Tyler probably just turned off the lights, she told herself, it's closing time. Despite this knowledge she couldn't help the shaking fear inside her. With her eyes closed she can feel everything around her moving in closer, trying to grab her and hurt her.
Foot steps grew closer and even though she knew in the back of her mind that it was either Tyler or Emily her brain told her that whatever was coming was sure to deal her a swift end. She closed her eyes tighter and prayed to any god that might have been listening for her soul to go to heaven or purgatory or wherever good souls go that isn't hell for eternity. "What are you doing?" She looked up at Tyler's voice and was hit with a wave of fighting emotions. Relief, embarrassment, and anger. Of course she was relieved to no longer be alone. Tyler was fairly tough, tougher than she ever hoped to be, and could probably lead her to the door without being attacked. If she needed to she would have used him as a human shield with no regrets. Embarrassed because how was she supposed to explain that she was still afraid of the dark at eighteen years old? The final emotion was the one she settled on, anger. Anger because he turned off the lights without warning her, and anger that now he was looking at her with pity in his eyes because he probably figured out her fear by now. "F**k. You." She said, but her voice quivered a bit in a mix of haste and remaining fear. he didn't respond, just stood there, they looked at each other for a long time. She regretted saying that to him, she worried he would yell at her or hit her or something. He didn't though. He moved to sit down beside her. She inched away from him. "I don't know what's wrong." he said. "But you can tell me." For a brief moment she believed him and considered his offer. Then she remembered who she was talking to. Tyler was, and always would be, a jerk who she hated. "What's going on over here?" Jessica looked up relieved when Emily stepped towards them. She shot up from her place on the floor and to her friend's side. "Take me to my car." Jessica half asked, half demanded. Emily seemed confused but didn't question it. She shot Tyler a glare as the two walked away, and motioned to him that she would be back to talk to him. Tyler was left in the dark. once Jessica was safe inside her car she turned on the headlights and just sat there for a moment, embracing the light. F**k the dark, and f**k Tyler. © 2016 Catie Rose |
