A sad truthA Poem by Joseph LaBargea slightly bitter poemNobody wants to date a poet Not really They might think they do At first But they don’t Trust me It is as if poet s are incapable of receiving love In fact the only way a poet has any real chance at all is to lie Lie through their teeth Say they are not a poet Say they haven’t written a single poem their entire life It may be sad But its true You see no one can love a poet Not even another poet can love a poet You can be a writer a rabi, musician mortician or even a nun, a stripper a sailor a pastor a tailor or even the manager of the local wonder bun and you have a chance but the second you say you are a poet forget it its over that’s it you see they will want you to write them a love poem and when you cant or wont or it sucks like love poems always do (except for sometimes to the person who their written to) They will realize their mistake And leave You see It is the comics joke The poetic justice The sad truth So my advice to you is If you are a poet And you start feelin a bit lonely Buy a dog © 2011 Joseph LaBarge |
