I know

I know

A Poem by Joseph LaBarge
"

a dialectic on identification, and understanding.

"

I was talking to Bonita

(which means beautiful and Spanish)

A bull dyke from the bowling alley

And we were just hanging out

And I say

I am a woman

And she says

I know

And I say

I am a lesbian

And she says

I know

And I say

I think am in love

And she says

I know

And I say

No one else understands

And she says

I know

And I say

They think it’s a joke

And she says

I know

Later that night

I was talking with Chip

(which means break off in small ibits in English)

A drag queen from a local bar

And I say

I am a woman

And he says

“how can you be a woman, if you don’t shave?”

And I say

I am a lesbian

and he says

“how can you be a lesbian if you don’t wear makeup?”

And I say

I think I am in love

And he laughs

And I say

People  don’t understand

And he says

How could they

And I say

They think it’s a joke

And he says

It is

Brilliant! I give it a 110/100 rating - bother, that doesn't exist! Well it should!

Wish I could write like that :-) Poetry and me just ain't meant to be together much though. Oh well.

I love the recurring lines thoughout!

I am a lapsed anarchist with a Dadaist sense of humor. I am horrible with punctuation, grammar, and spelling. I do not believe in form or reasonableness. My writing tends to contain contradictions and.. more..
