On the Futility of Breating

On the Futility of Breating

A Poem by Lesley

I think that for the last 5,000 years
the whole world has been trying to survive on
one breath of air.
Billions of people
all intaking the same breath,
and praying it won't be their last.
I think that
we're all united by the commonality
that we're all lost causes
living on that one breath
and any minute God could come down
and swallow up our share
and leave us desolate.

"Desolate" only in futile attempts to refuse His new breath of life my friend.....Your poem stings......direct and poignant......Hope lies in the choices we make......

"and praying it won't be their last"

The end is only the beginning for a child of God.....

Beautiful work Lesley.

Peace,

Bill

Interesting poem! It is a strong image that of the whole world inhaling the same breath and air! In fact one could say they are! Anyways it is quite a powerful poem and faces key emotions and it captures very well the futility of breathing...I wonder did you come up with the title or the poem first? It is always good to follow what one says one is going to write if that makes sense. In your case the title reflects very acutely the situation and disposition of humanity and the word futility is very suiting!
The first sentence is great! I don't exactly know why it attracts me so much...it is simple and its an idea from your part! I like it!
