Harper's Bazaar

A Poem by Jess Morgan

b*****d sweatshop ruin
a fashion exploitation
garment charity

tear in the fabric
behold! seamstress stitching slaves!
blood clothing the sick

poverty sewing
the brand name economics
corporate retail

a glamor crisis
trendy globalization
workforce immigrants

caramel lady
future free trade policy
you are what you wear

An excellent and appropriate free verse on this appalling trade which in its brevity captures the essence so well.

Alright, I wanted to review this last night, but I had been awake for nigh on 24 hours and my brain was having none of it.

Now, it takes talent to use as few words per line as this and still have them come out sounding original. There are only so many clever, original combinations of words left in the language, after all, and I think you've made that list a bit shorter here. And "you are what you wear" was probably the best possible line you could have used to end this piece. Pretty awesome all around.
