This poem has a real Zen quality. I greatly enjoyed this journey to see the cranes. All life fades away, and there is only the pond full of cranes. Beautiful moment of serenity.

There's stories about ducks that live with parts of arrows stuck through their neck and worse. Every time we poison a mouse that might get eaten by a bird of prey, or we erect new wind farms that are killing the cranes in high numbers, we lose a little bit of that freedom. Recent droughts have also dwindled their numbers. "Scientific" studies that divide a natural flock to take some to Florida, end in disaster when they disappear in the brutal storms. Nothing seems to work. Are we on a perilous path of losing them forever, these spectacular birds? Seems so. Little poems can carry so much behind them. Thank you for reading and commenting Free Will.
