Innocence Lost

Innocence Lost

A Poem by Glenn
"

The most difficult day

"

I dream of you every night

Holding you every step of the way

Giving me unconditional love

Until the dawn of the new day

I wake to your expected absence

I knew this moment was coming

Open my eyes to find you’ve gone away

I long for another night

I get to sleep and see your face

Sharing unconditional love

Until the dawn of the new day

I never got to see your face

Hold your tiny hand, in awe of an innocent soul

For one wrong decision, you were quickly taken away

I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you

Pick you up, see your smile

I’m sorry I didn’t protect you

Now never to look into your eyes

For a brief moment in time

This man as happy as can be

The thought of you in my life

Many expected memories

One mans need to feel no pain

He went just one drink too far

Took away my very future

As he stepped into that car

All I have now, is to dream every night

To sleep, see your innocent little face

Sharing unconditional love

Until the dawn of the new day

Very powerful and emotional. This is a beautiful poem. I feel incredibly sad for your loss. I can't imagine having to go through that. Tragedy is just one way that we become stronger in life. Your poem shows how painful this experience is for your still. Time doesn't heal all wounds, but maybe one day the pain will lessen. You did a great job here. :).

I read this earlier and I didn't know how to really respond to it from work. I have never experienced anything even close to this, and how could any words ever express the feelings this poem left us with? Writing about it is a good sign of healthy thoughts and acceptance and my heart truly goes out to you and your family.

I'm so very sorry about the loss you experienced. Reading this made me feel so incredibly sad and that just maybe my own problems aren't as big as they may seem compared to others. All I can say is that I can understand your pain and your hurt and know that writing has been my only outlet at times when I feel lost and hopeless and I'm sure it will do the same for you and time heals all wounds...because like you, I am fairly new to the writing world per-say...keep on writing!

Without going into the personal aspect of your poem, from what I gather this is a sad moment and I picture it well. Writing is healing. It will lead you through much pain. This poem left me with a compassionate sadness. Keep going!
