Innocence Lost

Innocence Lost

A Poem by Glenn
"

The most difficult day

"

I dream of you every night

Holding you every step of the way

Giving me unconditional love

Until the dawn of the new day

I wake to your expected absence

I knew this moment was coming

Open my eyes to find you’ve gone away

I long for another night

I get to sleep and see your face

Sharing unconditional love

Until the dawn of the new day

I never got to see your face

Hold your tiny hand, in awe of an innocent soul

For one wrong decision, you were quickly taken away

I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you

Pick you up, see your smile

I’m sorry I didn’t protect you

Now never to look into your eyes

For a brief moment in time

This man as happy as can be

The thought of you in my life

Many expected memories

One mans need to feel no pain

He went just one drink too far

Took away my very future

As he stepped into that car

All I have now, is to dream every night

To sleep, see your innocent little face

Sharing unconditional love

Until the dawn of the new day

Very powerful and emotional. This is a beautiful poem. I feel incredibly sad for your loss. I can't imagine having to go through that. Tragedy is just one way that we become stronger in life. Your poem shows how painful this experience is for your still. Time doesn't heal all wounds, but maybe one day the pain will lessen. You did a great job here. :).

This poem is more than an unspeakable tragedy yet somehow you've managed to write superbly.

This is hell, this sadness .. the pain never ceases as you have written within these emotional and heart-wrenching words. A day more difficult is unimaginable. Pain so deep some are willing and will do whatever it takes to make it go away , tho it never does, not even for just one minute. All those reminders.. a life taken too soon .. sorrow is well expressed here.

Very well written, it really spoke to me, one of my cousin's had the same ordeal. It's a hard grieving time to let go of, but sometimes things happen for a reason. I really liked it though. Very touching.
