The Damned

The Damned

A Poem by Glenn
"

About people who seem to take pleasure in hurting others!

"

I lie in this bed of nails

Head rest wearily on a pillow of thorns

The words you breathe cut deep into my soul

I lie here fading, wilting, tormented by hurt

My very existence swallowed by pain

You’ve taken what I once was

Burned it with unrelenting flame

Smoldering ash of what we once were

The only thing left for me to see

My world grows dark, hope fades away

You left me here to die

Left me struggling to breathe

Only words I can utter “why, why, why”

Consumed by this bed of nails

Smothered by the pillow of thorns

My world now black, hope ripped away

Life as I knew it, buried with regret

Emotional murder comes easily for you

Glaring back at pieces of a man, as you walk out the door

Pleased with your efforts, wicked smile on your face

Off to the next victim of your malicious ways

Wow. This was so graphic and deep and very very strong. I think you have a great piece here on your hands. I've tried several times to capture something like this and was unsuccessful, you, however, have created something that I'm surprised words would be able to grasp. Great job, love.

I am sorry to begin this review with your words but this verse i powerul and truth:

"Emotional murder comes easily for you

Glaring back at pieces of a man, as you walk out the door

Pleased with your efforts, wicked smile on your face

Off to the next victim of your malicious ways"

I have known these people.. you described them well.
This poem should not have to be written, people should be more kind... this shows it is not how life is, only how it should be.. moving words.

An excellent poem that demonstrates the mind of a person who enjoys hurting others. I once watched a show with William Shatner called Aftermath I think it was called. The episode was about the DC snipers, and the victims of the shootings were on the show. They showed a recording of what the snipers said, and what they said reminded me of this poem alot. It get shivers just from reading this very detailed poem. You did an amazing job here.

A wonderful dark/fiction poem. I love your descriptions of the "bed of nails" as a symbolic reference to pain and loss. It fits perfectly, and now that I think about it, not many poets can write like this. It's riveting I suppose.
