JanetA Poem by GlamGirlA lost love
I look out the cracked window
pane to see raindrops streaming down in an endless race against themselves and I grab the peach colored umbrella Janet gave me for my forty third birthday and step outside where I no longer see her blue SUV in the driveway and I remember something is wrong when her black raincoat and worn out boots are not next to mine, but the boys at the end of the street are still there, using the water to slick back their greasy mops and I go to ask them if they had seen Janet but they shake their tired heads at me and go on with their talk of what they bought off the black man outside of Steve's Bar and I turn to search in earnest of my love but the rain blurs my vision and my weary feet carry me sluggishly down the street in search for the lost one After the sun rises and parts the clouds still carrying rain, I end the search for my love and we sit together and I want to reach and hold her hand and tell her the headlines of my morning papers, but I can't so we sit in silence, Janet and I, and I watch her rest peacefully six feet under. © 2013 GlamGirlAuthor's Note
