Fiery Love

Fiery Love

A Poem by Nicki

Love is a flame whose light shapes only shadows

The ghostly, gray figures climb mischievously through the windows

They dance flat against ivory-papered walls

And waltz with the phantoms through the long, endless halls

They sneak through bedroom doors

And whisper softer than slumbering snores

Into innocent lovers ears

Devilish lies and haunting fears

They watch the sabotage of the night

As they hide from sunny daylight

Tearing apart

Poor lovers' hearts

in malicious delight

They watch the inevitable fight

Hear the screams

of broken dreams

from the specters

of their adventures

Love turns to hate

it's the only and eternal fate

As fire burns its yellow glow

Casting a sallow and broken halo

Until it grows ever more dim

its arms reaching lower with shrinking limbs

It gasps for air in pathetic crackles and pops

Until it withers so dreadfully its breathing stops

And embers glowing with crimson rage

 fade to nothing

To dust

To gray

The blaze of love has lost its heat

Loneliness wistfully watches love retreat

Nothing and numb

Wasted and dumb

Sick and alone

Abused and thrown

away

Loves is a flame whose light never stays

Thanks so much! Hope you have a great day!
I always have a hard time making rhyme not sound so "sing-songy" if that makes sense, haha—I really admire how you use rhyme here. I love the beat and flow of this. I especially love "Here the screams...of their adventures." Great work!
