in a Field of RosesA Poem by NickiFlowers spread their attractive petals Bright colors exploding from the bouquets like a thousand sunsets blooming from the dust Their aroma fills the air with a rich, decadent sweetness It conjures images of vibrant, summery meadows and lush, vivacious gardens There's a slight draft in the room It carries the scent in a swirling dance A wonderful waltz of sensations I close my eyes and imagine the softest of breezes caressing my skin with a tantalizing lightness It's all bright and summery and warm and alive Until you look left Left is the smooth black coffin It gleams in a sickeningly over clean way The Grim Reaper must have spent hours polishing it Like a black diamond surrounded by other ebony gems as the cloud of black garbed people drifts across the cold, desolate room People stifle their sobs in white tissues The ivory a stark contrast to all the black cloth Just like the flowers which seem so out of place So beautiful and bright and lively in this room of darkness and sorrow this room where tears make waterfalls down pale cheeks And phantoms and shadows dance to the cacophonous cries of the lamenting The flowers don't seem to notice all the terrors of the room But perhaps behind their smiling blossoms A painful haunting infects their gleaming colors © 2015 Nicki |
