A Picture of PerfectionA Poem by NickiThe sunlight drips from the sky like golden drops of honey That land in the water and spread a bright twinkling reflection Over the river’s gaping mouth; the light cascades over the trees Illuminating the canopy :the deep scarlets and vivid oranges Mingle with the vivacious yellows and the darker auburns Creating a quilt of warm colors That is draped around the shoulders of the earth The trees whistle and their leaves oscillate Creating a shimmery effect on the world’s leafy blanket The clouds in the gray-blue sky whisper breaths of cool air The leaves occasionally leaping from their home in the tree tops To dance in the wind Rejoicing its refreshing touch finding life anew in the swirling autumn air Reveling in the artistry: The contours of their own movement and the flashing color of each twirl The water journeys slowly with a joyous nonchalance That leaves the sound of a light sigh echoing across the landscape At least that is how I imagine the caress of the wind And the diving of the leaves and the resonance of the river For it is just a photograph which chills my bare arms Rustles my hair playfully and envelopes me in nature Ink on paper has captured a moment of serenity A moment where the sweet smell of autumn Has enriched a river in a forest somewhere in Arkansas A mere photograph has evoked the sensations of reality Because for a minute I forgot I was staring at a magazine My surroundings morphed and I inhaled the aromas of nature I felt the breeze wrap around me I heard the birds and the whoosh of water So there is a magic in a camera There is an incurable beauty in the lenses, in the flash And in the print of a photograph taken with a light heart and a keen eye © 2015 NickiAuthor's Note
